Arkansas Hooked On Fishing – Not On Drugs (HOFNOD) is a school-based program designed to support fishing clubs in schools. In addition to learning how to fish, students learn about aquatic ecology while developing skills for life: how to be patient, set goals, solve problems, make good decisions, and improve self-esteem.
HOFNOD has been approved by the Arkansas Department of Education for professional development and is aligned to the state's educational frameworks. The number of hours of professional development vary with the length of the workshop. At the conclusion of each workshop, teachers receive free curriculum, and may receive aquariums and free fishing equipment from AGFC.
This program is for licensed teachers. Others attending must do so at the written request of a school or upon the approval of the workshop facilitator.
